Long Day

Yesterday we took Deagan down to the doctor, again. They said that they couldn't get his tests done at the hospital for TWO WEEKS...unless we went back to our pediatrician and had her schedule an emergency procedure. So that's exactly what we did.
We left at 8am and didn't get back that night until almost 8pm...what a long day!!!
Deagan did the barium swallow for the upper GI. It came back with the results that we already knew- he has severe reflux. DUH!!!! So then after a little pushing from the over-protective-mother-me, they did the small bowel too. He had live Xrays every 20-30 mins for three hours.

It was fun keeping a two year old at bay in the waiting room!!!! But Olivia did very well. We explained to her that Deagan had to drink some yucky stuff that would make his tummy light up when they took a picture, so we could see what was inside. So she immediately went to lift up his shirt and see the light in his tummy...it was adorable:)
THE GOOD NEWS is that he doesn't have anything wrong with his intestines, like we had thought he might. The problem that he had in the womb had completely gone away.
Great we say, but then what the heck is wrong with the little man that is causing all this bloating, straining and crying?!?!?!?!
The pediatrician said her best guess is that his stomach lining is severely damaged and he's eating too much thinking that it'll comfort him, but then it just makes him worse. The food sits in there and burns his tummy. So we are cutting back in the ounces and thickening it with rice cereal. Yes, you read that right, an eight week old on rice cereal. But they explained it as if we'd drink OJ everyday all day, and it would burn like hell. But if you thickened it with oatmeal, it would stay down. And it does. It seems to help. Plus the medicine is repairing what damage was done and preventing further damage.
So in a few weeks he should be better, he's already a little more comfortable. Poor little man:(
