Getting Big..
Oh yeah, and @ eight weeks old, Deagan weighs 14 lbs 10 oz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Long Day
Yesterday we took Deagan down to the doctor, again. They said that they couldn't get his tests done at the hospital for TWO WEEKS...unless we went back to our pediatrician and had her schedule an emergency procedure. So that's exactly what we did.
We left at 8am and didn't get back that night until almost 8pm...what a long day!!!
Deagan did the barium swallow for the upper GI. It came back with the results that we already knew- he has severe reflux. DUH!!!! So then after a little pushing from the over-protective-mother-me, they did the small bowel too. He had live Xrays every 20-30 mins for three hours.
It was fun keeping a two year old at bay in the waiting room!!!! But Olivia did very well. We explained to her that Deagan had to drink some yucky stuff that would make his tummy light up when they took a picture, so we could see what was inside. So she immediately went to lift up his shirt and see the light in his tummy...it was adorable:)
THE GOOD NEWS is that he doesn't have anything wrong with his intestines, like we had thought he might. The problem that he had in the womb had completely gone away.
Great we say, but then what the heck is wrong with the little man that is causing all this bloating, straining and crying?!?!?!?!
The pediatrician said her best guess is that his stomach lining is severely damaged and he's eating too much thinking that it'll comfort him, but then it just makes him worse. The food sits in there and burns his tummy. So we are cutting back in the ounces and thickening it with rice cereal. Yes, you read that right, an eight week old on rice cereal. But they explained it as if we'd drink OJ everyday all day, and it would burn like hell. But if you thickened it with oatmeal, it would stay down. And it does. It seems to help. Plus the medicine is repairing what damage was done and preventing further damage.
So in a few weeks he should be better, he's already a little more comfortable. Poor little man:(

What a relief!
We finally got a great pediatrician up here! We ended up going to the one in Cadillac and she was great. A young girl, but up to date on all the 'know' about kids. She was very patient and kind and took her time talking things through with us. I was so relieved. Some of you asked why we couldn't find a closer doctor- our insurance gives us a list of approved people, and we pick one. And it just so happens they don't approve any Peds close to here. !!!!!
Anyway, she said he has severe reflux and put him on prevacid in addition to Zantac. I guess they both do different things, but together should be perfect for him. She was also concerned about his belly problems. (He grunts and strains and screams all the time for no apparent reason- not at all related with pooping). So she ordered some tests at the hospital, a barium swallow, in which he'll drink the stuff that makes him glow inside so they can see what's going on in live xrays. She said his abdomen is really swollen and bloated, so there might be an upper intestinal issue going on. I personally think it's related to the problems he had in the womb. We'll just have to wait and see, and pray he's ok and we can help him feel a little better:)
