Four Years ago....

Four years ago tonight I was not even close to falling asleep in my friend Angie's in-law's house in Ruston, LA. We had evacuated our home and driven like 7 hours north. Hurricane Katrina had made landfall as a category 5, with the eye of the storm going DIRECTLY over our town. We were all safe, we were all together. I remember packing for our evacuation, hugely pregnant, wondering if I should bring any baby stuff with me. He was still snug in my belly at that time. I decided to bring a small diaper bag with a few baby outfits and at last minute I grabbed the infant carseat "just in case." Well sure enough, we were had no choice but to have our baby. The town we lived in was essentially shut down. There was no electricity. downed trees everywhere, 8 feet of flooding in some places and overall no one was allowed in because the storm hadn't quite passed yet.
We had no idea the state of our home. But we knew DD had brewed in there long enough and just had to come out.
We found a hospital and a new doctor (who was waaaaay better than my original one). Our moms and dads drove down to be there. Jeff and I got up at the crack of dawn to go to the hospital for the scheduled c-section. The doctors were so good to us, and the nurses too. Everyone showered us with gifts, because we had NOTHING for this baby boy. I remember the night before he was born we went to babies r us to get a bassinet for him to sleep in! The nurses bought us a swing! Wow, looking back at all of this I'm amazing I held myself together!
Back to the boy at hand, Deagan came into this world at 7:50am (maybe that's why he's an early riser?) He was a ginormous baby. All swollen with fluid from the c-section and didn't look at all like himself. I think it took him about three months to look like "Deagan."
Deag kept us hoping from day two of his life, with his first of MANY, many fevers. He had to have a spinal tap at two days old! How terrible for a baby! Then he had an IV board stuck to his arm for the next few days. Silly kid... they never did find out what was wrong with him. And ever since he's been the king of fevers. When he gets sick he gets very high fevers, four hours on the dot apart, for about four days. Honest. Fever king!
Mr. Man has definitely had an eventful life. He's lived in many houses, six to be exact. He's been on more plane rides than most adults (ahem, brynn).
He hit the ground running and hasn't stopped. He's our little man who loves anything with wheels. Bikes, scooters, skateboards (with a sled on top going down the driveway), quads, quads and more quads, specially if he can ride them with poppie. He loves to go fast. He loves to feel like he was in danger (not sure that's really a smart thing, but it's a deag thing). He likes to wear his helmet, which is a good thing because he uses it frequently. You'll frequently hear him yell across the culdesac, "that was awesome, did you see that?"

He loves Mac 'n Cheese. And asks for it daily, despite my efforts to only let him have it once a week.
He loves his "sippy and a snack" every morning, first thing. When he wakes up in the morning he runs, literally as fast as he can, breathless, as if someone were chasing him, into my room. And yes, it cracks me up daily. You can hear a "thump" as he falls out of bed and then the pitter patter of his running feet as he races to my room before the monsters under his bed can get him:) Oh sweet boy, how I love you!
He HAS to go outside, everyday, before 10am. Otherwise he doesn't function properly and will start to destroy things, or pick on his sister. It's like his body requires the fresh air in the morning like I require coffee.
He still takes a TWO hour nap, everyday. And he loves to be tickled, hard and as fast as you can, before you tuck him into his nap. You may think it would rile him up, but no it helps him "get his energy out" and pass out.
He loves to watch movies, or better yet go to movies.
He loves his big sister, who he used to call "sissy" but now calls "Livia."
He loves to play fetch with maverick and jumps up and down with delight each time Mav goes to get the toy, like he's amazed the dog is actually listening to him and doing what D says.
It's his mission in life to win at everything, and if he doesn't he cries. Like a baby.
He's a momma's boy. ;)
He's sneaky and he'll try to swindle many, many things with those dimples.
He's got a pouty lip that rivals most babies. When he cries he hops up and down and strums his hand on his belly like he's playing the guitar. I call him hopper and ask him what song he's playing, then he laughs through the tears.
He loves his baby sister and greats her with "where's my pretty girl" every morning in this super cute voice.
He's very rough with Tess, but she loves it and smiles at his crazy antics!
He can't be trusted with her, at all, ever. He'll shove something in her mouth, pinch her, pull on her, anything he can just to see how she'll react. But she'll never cry for him! I'll say "deagan stop pinching her feet buddy, it hurts her!" and he'll reply "no it doesn't mommy, she would cry if it did!"
He loves cookies. and popcorn. and orange juice. and coffee- you must hide your cup or he'll chug it!
He doesn't like cake. or anything green to eat.
He's sneaky.
He's adorable.
He's VERY hard headed.
He will ask you before he does something what the punishment will be, then weigh his options. Hmm, five minutes of time out for one super cool jump off the kitchen table, ok it's worth it!
He doesn't like to listen to his mother.
He misses his daddy who pushes him to do more fun, crazy things! Like ride a two wheeled bike at 3 years old!
He's my baby boy! He'll always be.
Happy Fourth Birthday Deag! I love you!

Tessa's woes

Tessa has been going through some mini medical stuff since last week, and I wasn't going to share because it's a private problem for a little girl. But then I was talking to Angie and we were trying to remember when things happened in the past, and consulted OUR BLOGS to get the info. So I figure that I don't document it, I'll forget when it happened when I need to recall that info in the future.

Last Wednesday, Aug 26th, Tessa had a HORRIBLE day. She's normally a very laid back baby that just sort of hangs out and watches the big kids. She loves to be carried around in her wrap or just chill in her bouncy seat. Well Wednesday she cried and cried and cried. And cried. Hysterically cried. Inconsolably cried. Nothing could help her. I would just wrap her and hold her giving her all the love I could give.

Well, the week previous when we were up north, I noticed that she had a few stinky pee diapers. It wasn't every time, so I didn't think anything of it. She's an 'odd' child that sleeps through the night with a dry diaper, always has. Then she pours it all out first thing when she wakes up. So I just thought it was a lot of pee.

So after her screaming fits and the smelly pee (red flag) I decided to call her pediatrician and get her in. I've been happy with this pediatrician and the office staff, up until now.

First off, the doc kind of dismissed me when I mentioned a possible UTI. She checked her out and basically told me she thought it was teething or a growth spurt. Um, no- Mommy knows when something is wrong. I had to half way tell her she was going to check for a UTI- which involved a catheter for a sample, but that's not as bad as it could be if the UTI got out of control and was untreated.

So she asked me, "are you sure you want to put her through that?" Yes, dammit, I'm telling you she has one!

Sure enough, the rapid results in her office indicated a bacterial infection. (don't mess with a 3rd time momma).
Then she came in with a puzzled look and said, well we also discovered an "off the charts" high level of white blood cells in her urine. She was literally scratching her head. So she gave us amoxcicillan (sp?) and said to call back Saturday. They were going to grow a culture of the bacteria to see what drugs it was resistant to, and what drug could properly wipe it out.

So Friday, a nurse calls me and says it was confirmed as ecoli, and her colony count was above 100,000 and "that it's a higher count than most adults have!" (I'll say it again, don't discount a mommy's intuition!). But they wouldn't have the culture resistant info back until Monday.

So essentially they could have put her on the wrong antibiotic from Thursday through Monday that wasn't helping her infection. The doc told me to call back Saturday morning to see if the lab results were in, the tech could read them and then page her if Tessa was on the wrong meds and get them changed.

So I called. I got the same nurse that I talked to Friday. She was an absolute bitch to me. She answered saying, "didn't I talk to you yesterday? Didn't I tell you we wouldn't have the results until Monday? Why are you wasting my time, essentially!"
Thank god I'm not a first time mom because I would have been in TEARS. Thankfully I know my baby is going to live and I blow off this beotch and leave pissed off for the rest of the weekend.

Luckily, my parents took the big kids for the weekend so I was able to hold miss Tess and give her some quality lovin' all weekend. Which I really think helped ALOT. She was very happy to just sit and cuddle with her momma.

So this morning my doctor calls me a little before 8am and tells me with great urgency in her voice that I she's sorry to wake me up so early, but I need to get over to the pharmacy after breakfast to get her started on a different antibiotic asap because the one she's on the bacterial is resilient to and it's not effectively killing them off.

Not only did I know this was going to happen, but I called Saturday! And if that lazy nurse would have just done an ounce of work on our behalf she could have had those results and sent us on our way with the right meds. So instead she's four days behind on feeling better and kicking this nasty UTI. UGH, I could slap that nurse!

Long, long story..... but she's now feeling better. After just a few doses she took a THREE hour nap this afternoon and seemed in great spirits.

Sweet baby girl!

House Update #742

****update****
they came back this afternoon and said that they are ordering a new appraisal from a different company to see if they can get the numbers to more closely allign. At least they are finally making a small effort to try and work with us and not against us!
No news on the house yet! We've been waiting for a week and a half to hear the final determination on our last ditch effort! But nothing yet...

Updates and such...

Well we just finished a fantastic week of having Jeff home. Sorry for those of you who didn't know... we wanted to keep him all to ourselves! It was a great end of summer vacation:) We went up north for a few days to his parent's house. We ALL had a blast in Lake Michigan swimming, oh how refreshing that was. Then there was just a lot of relaxing. Lots of QT.
We headed back to the hunt club for a night so the boys could ride quads. Then after a few days of projected rain, we decided to pack it up and just head home. So we spent the last five days of our vacation at home, as a family. It was nice to have everyone just be together, in our home, for probably the last time (hope and pray) in this house.
-sidebar- we have had more drama with the house, too much to constantly keep you abreast on! Let's just say we are hoping and praying for good news to come Monday or Tuesday.
This morning, Sunday, Jeff did a triathlon here in Brighton. He was originally going to do the Traverse City one, but that didn't work out with timing and him driving home to make it to a class that starts Monday. So he did the local one- AND HE ROCKED IT!
He ended up placing 5th overall and medaling 2nd in his age group!!!! The kids and I dragged our butts out of bed at 6am to be there for his 7:30 start and we got to watch the whole thing. It's alot of fun for all of us:) I got some great pictures that I'll post soon. (hey, no chuckling under your breath with a "yeah right"... I WILL post them!)

Anyway, there you have it. The lives of The Carter Family. Stay tuned for more house updates soon:)

I want to vomit!

I haven't felt this nasty in a long, long time. I mean more years than you can count on a hand. That puking sick blank stare take your breath away sick! My head is fuzzy, tears are flowing and I have a GIANT headache that just won't go away.

So the ride we are on with our Michigan home has been a roller coaster. First we're up, then we're down... then we're back up, oh no wait down again. Well this time the track is ending and it's on a HUGE down...down...down..... will it stop?

To bring you up to date here's a short recap of the last two weeks:
First we were told we finally have a case manager on our short sale
Next we were told the offer was too great to refuse, should have a closing date set within two weeks.
A week later the bank countered our buyer's offer, the buyers countered back with a perfect market value offer
Five days go by, the bank responds- Nope, sorry, we won't accept ANY short sale at all.
THANKS FOR WAITING THREE MONTHS TO TELL US. GAME OVER. YOU'RE SCREWED.

So now you're up to date. We're screwed. It's a nasty, dirty game between us, the banks and the govn't.
You see we have a govn't backed FHA loan on this home. The mortgage company WANTS us to go into foreclosure (and even told our agent over the phone). It's in their best interests if we go into foreclosure. (sidebar- NO we are not late, nor are we missing payments... just trying to sell the damn thing and move to be with Jeff. Those of you not in MIchigan, the housing values in our county have dropped almost 50% since we purchased our home, so we can't sell it for what we owe and we are essentially "underwater"). You see if it goes into foreclosure then the mortgage company gets reimbursed from the govn't for every penny that they lost. Which would be more in their pocket than if they accepted our short sale!

It's a cruel game, and they are winning it.

So now we are left up SHIT CREEK without a paddle and our hands tied behind our backs.

We can't foreclose on the home and just walk away and deal with the 'usual' 7 year credit hit. Oh no, that'd be too easy. Since Obama's rule, the govn't has been losing too much $ and now they want it back. So if we had to foreclose on this house, once the bank did sell it and get that $ plus the difference from the govn't, we are responsible for paying back that difference to the govn't. To the tune of $100,000 that they would set up a "payment plan" for. A payment plan, automatically deducting a certain amount from his pay for the rest of his life. Sahweeet! That option is out.

Renting you say? Sure, in a perfect world. But as we all know, The Carter's World is NEVER perfect.
Because our county is spiraling out of control right now, the most we could get for a rental would be about $300-500 less than what our mortgage is. Come on, we're in the military- do you think we can cover a house in Virginia as well as any extra $500 bucks a month to cover that difference? Ummm No.
And even if we did get renters in here... what if they lose their jobs? What if they stop paying? Then what? We foreclose? Yeah, No. See above....

SO there is where we are.

Pissed off, with no options and left feeling like this just isn't right. We're a perfect middle class family. We have outstanding credit scores, no bills, never late on payments. Jeff took the military job to provide for his family and look where it's gotten us.
Living Bi-Costal with no end in sight.

So as for now, we have no choice. The kids and I stay here!
Got any ideas?

p.s.- thanks for listening, I'll pay you my therapy bill in sweet baby pictures- Lord knows that's about the only happy thing we have going for us right now!

Deagan's Sister

I must take at least ten photos a day with my iphone of my sweet babies! If you're a member of facebook, find me! I update that daily. For some reason I just can't get my butt on blogger much lately!!! I'm in a slump. I know. I'm on my way out of it and promise that I will update soon. When the big kids are back in school and I have time to breathe. In the meantime, I couldn't resist sharing this adorable picture of Deagan and HIS sister.

Quotes of the Day, by Deagan and Olivia

Deagan: "Mom, I want one of those magic wands on Disney. So I can turn Livia into a frog!"

Olivia: "What if there was a five year old, but not me- just another five year old, that wished on a star to get married to a boy? Would it come true, I mean if another five year old just like me, but not me wished for that?"

She has been muddling over what to be for Halloween this year (due to the influx of magazine's we've been receiving in the mail with costumes). This week we have settled on her being a bride. She's obsessed with brides, weddings and getting married. Enchanted, not obsessed. So of course I told her yes, hypothetically speaking a five year old, just like her- but not her, could wish for that and it probably would come true. Adorable!

p.s.- He used to call her "sissy" 24/7, but now he calls her "Livia" or "O-livia" with the longest "O" you've ever heard. The adults in her life call her sissy more than he does anymore!!! :( Except when he's frustrated with her, then she's sissy.

Good News

First off, day one of the garage sale was a FANTASTIC DAY! Made few hundred dollars:) Can't wait till tomorrow....

Second, but should be first- I just got an email from our VB realtor. The people selling us their house have decided to WAIT. Yes, it's like we are on a ping pong table... back and forth back and forth. One day we have it, one day we don't.
Today WE DO. I guess that after thinking about it, they've decided it would be beneficial to all parties if they just waited for us as originally planned. They are moving out over the next two weeks and do not want to mess with new showings. So they've extended our contract by a few weeks and will wait for us! YAY!!!!!
Now if we could just ensure a response from our MI house in that time frame....

Tuesday, August 04, 2009

I'm putting together a garage sale this weekend and man it's alot of work!!! I've spent a few days hauling up crap from our basement, cleaning and pricing it. The kids are less than patient right now and are crawling all over each other. Why do they have to fight? How do I stop them from beating each other- I mean deagan hitting Olivia?!?!?
Well let's just hope no one tells them that we will be tied to the house for three days of the sale and not able to leave.... Shhh
?

House Update

Ok, well there really isn't an update. Well sort of...
As you may know, we've had an offer pending on our Michigan house for two months now. We are waiting on the bank to make their determinations and set a closing date. We were supposed to have the closing date set this past Wednesday, but that DIDN'T happen. When Tessa and I went to Virginia to visit Jeff and go house hunting we put an offer down on a house. They accepted the offer with a contingency on the sale of our house. Well now they decided they don't want to wait anymore and they want out of the contract. Crappy! Because we LOVED this house. It was perfect, but poor timing. So we are pretty sure we lost that one and will have to start over. Will it all come together by the time school starts? We don't know! Will Olivia start school up here or in VA, we don't know! Will be buy a new house or rent one so we can move in asap before school starts, we don't know!
So basically right now the housing situation is one big stress ball that changes daily! Some days we get good encouraging news and then the next it's bad news again. I've learned to just block it out and not take anything too seriously, because it does change so much. If anything concrete comes up, I'll let you know.
And yes, check back soon, I WILL POST MORE PICTURES. I know I'm slacking, probably the worst history of slacking in my blogger history! And I just sent out the birth announcements.... so you're all checking this right? Ha! But I do have a tiny 11 lbs excuse, right?!?!?!?!
