Adam and Brynn drove up for Jeff's race and to spend the weekend with us, since they were unable to attend Tessa's birthday party. Well the afternoon of the race, we were able to sneak away from the kids for two hours and do some local northern Michigan wine tasting. Jeff and I discovered Blackstar Farms a few years ago and simply fell in love with their Late Harvest Riesling. Mmmmm. Well we had never actually visited the vineyard, just a few minutes from his parent's house, and we decided today was a great day! We had THE BEST time!!!!!
A large part of our trip to Michigan was for Jeff to run in the Bayshore marathon. He's been training for a very long time to qualify to run in the Boston Marathon. On this day, all of the stars aligned and he finally was able to have his perfect race! Jeff not only achieved his goal- he SMASHED his goal. He needed to get a time of 3 hours and 6 minutes or less, and he came in at 2 hours and 57 minutes! Wow! It was amazing. breathtaking. tearful. A moment we will never forget:)
So when we drove into Michigan we were coming off of an all nighter. We left around 4pm on Friday after Olivia got out of school. Well it was a Friday, rush hour... and it took us FOR-EV-ER to cross through the bridge and the tunnel. Then by the time we got to the other side everyone had to pee, then it was dinner time, then it was this and that and BLAH we just weren't making headway! It was one long night, with one upset baby who had no idea why we were confining her to her car seat for such an obscene amount of time. Finally after midnight, she fell asleep. We pulled into my parent's driveway at 7am, just as the kids were waking up for the day. Thankfully, my parents took them for two hours so we could rest! Once we awoke, we drove to Ann Arbor and met Adam and Brynn for breakfast. There they gave miss Tess her super special birthday tutu (that we just LOVE). Memorable!
Every morning, Jeff and Deagan would wake up with the sun and go out on the deck fishing. They were in search of the big fish... and on our very last morning in the house, they caught it! Deagan was so proud of his daddy and this fish, he was beaming!!! Jeff taught him how to properly hold the fish and then they released it back into the water. :)
Here are a few pictures of Tessa's first birthday party downstate at the house we rented. What a wonderful day it was!!! Thank you to everyone who was able to come out and celebrate with us. Olivia had a great time with her old Michigan girlfriends too! And Miss Tess absolutely loved her party and all of the people!
My name is Tricia Carter and this is the life in snidbits of the crazy Carter family. Jeff and I have been married for six years now and we have three amazing kids! Olivia is five and blossoming right before our eyes into a little lady, sweet and smart. Deagan is three and is crazy as can be. Tiny Tessa is growing bigger and more beautiful each day. We are so thankful to have three beautiful, healthy and happy children. I can't help but gush about them daily. I hope you enjoy following our lives.
