Finally, finally, finally we own a nice car! Today Jeff and I are the proud new owners of a 2003 Dodge Caravan. Yup, you read that right, a minivan. We gave in to the mommy and daddy inside and got a minivan. It offered so much more than the SUVs that we were looking at....and we got a STEAL too! It's always good when the salesman gets in trouble midway thru the deal, it makes you feel like you beat the system. We said so long crappy jeep and kicked it as we left it in the parking lot of the dealership! Olivia was a little emotional about 'her car,' but then we pointed to the new car and she simply waved bye-bye to the old one and jumped right in the van. The whole way home she was literally dancing in her seat singing 'new car, new car!' We are so happy and feel much safer. After exactly one week and two car breakdowns we knew we had to give in and take on a new one. We will post pictures soon:) YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Today Olivia learned the word "DON'T" I have no idea where she got it or how it magically popped into her head to say to me, but it's here and it's probably not leaving for awhile. I was giving her a bath tonight and when I went to wash her hair she looked at me squarely and said, "Don't momma!" Wow! Where is our innocent little girl?
Olivia happy in Delaney's arms...all the kids got together for the birthday party picture, and Olivia snuck right up onto Laney's lap! Spoiled!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Look at that grin!
Well after a rough week of car woes, we were able to relax and have a good time Friday night. Jeff met his friend Jason at the movie theater and saw the new Star Wars. He said it was really, really good. It had the best special effects that he's ever seen and it tied up lose ends. Sounds exciting!
I had a girls night out to celebrate Angie's birthday. We met a bunch of the women that live in her neighborhood and headed out to dinner at Carreta's Mexican Grill. It was nice, they all had mango margaritias and I did too, just not with the alcohol:) It was fun, lots of gossip and laughter!!
Little Miss Olivia also had a night out. She went to Cross Gates (our gym) for Parent's Night Out, a program that they have once a month where they take in all the kids from 6-11 and keep them busy so the parent's can sneak out. Olivia was excited all day long because she was going to have a "pizza party with maddy!" When she got there she found Maddy right away and was glued to her the whole night. The girls running it said the two were so concerned with each other that they didn't separate all night, that is until it was about 10:30 and little O finally broke down. My poor little baby was soo tired, luckily she found a nice girl who held her and let her sleep a little on her lap. Then when I got there she promptly asked for Maddy again!!! They are so adorable, they finally notice each other and remember that they love each other. And they play WITH each other, not just parallel silent play. It's cute. We were leaving the gym late last night and Maddy was getting all loaded up in her car, then you hear this tiny little voice scream, "bye O-lily-A" I swear my heart melted, she is SOOOO adorable! Needless to say it was a great night and everyone had a little fun for themselves:)
Saturday we went to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital Trike-A-Thon put on by Olivia's playgroup. All the kids raised money and came out to have a good time. It was a gorgeous day!!! We met Angie, Delaney, and Maddy there too. Elmo made a surprise visit, but Olivia was a little intimidated by him and just liked to look from afar. We ended our day with a nice dip in the pool...for three hours. These three little girls are fish. It helped Olivia to have others there to egg her on and to make her get crazy. She LOVED it! I'm sure we'll be spending most of our HOT summer days at the pool:)
Well it's been ten weeks since our little munchkin sent us racing to the ER. I'd like to personally walk in there and slap that doctor that told us we had no chance at the baby surviving! Because Look At Us Now:) We are just about in the last trimester. We had another apt today with our OBGYN and things are progressing well. He's a big boy with a strong heart (and feet, ouch!). We are looking at having a C-section in the 39th week. We just pray now that he'll stay in that long.
Olivia got worse and worse, wasn't eating or sleeping through the night, and oh the crying. So we took her into the doctor yesterday. It was our doc's day off and at first they said all the other doctors were busy and couldn't fit us in...ugh! But the super nice receptionist kept my name and called me back when there was a cancellation. We saw a new doctor, and surprisingly Olivia was very tolerant. (For those of you who might not know, she's got HUGE stranger anxiety and hates being touched by anyone- screams bloody murder). This time she did well. She's making the connection that at the doctors office she'll get a sucker, so she waits patiently for it. Silly girl!
Anyway, she has the beginnings of bronchitis. They were concerned about her breathing being so raspy and the O2 level in her blood, so they measured it and she was fine. So we were well on our way with two Rx for some magic meds:) For the first time in three days she slept thru the night as normal. And woke up dancing (literally!!). We had a great morning and she's feeling much better. If we could just get the faucet in her nostrils to turn off!?!?!
Now we hope Jeff and I don't get sicker. We both have terrible head colds. Hope it passes soon. We feel like we are stuck in sea shells and spinning around. Yuck! Wish I could have some of Olivia's magic meds:)
Well it's official, we are all sick. It started with just Olivia but then it traveled like the wind. I spent Mother's Day with her attatched to my chest like a koala bear (over my big belly)! Poor little thing was just a ball of yuckies. And of course today she's a little better and now I'm hit hard. And Jeff is well on his way. But it's just a head cold, so we hope it passes fast.
Happy Mother's Day to all my favorite mommies out there. All the grandmothers, Aunties, Mothers and Friends!!! I hope you all can relax a little and enjoy your day. We started out today with a sick little girl at 6am:( She has a funny cough and a runny nose. Hopefully it will just be one of those little colds that comes and goes fast. Jeff and Olivia made me a nice breakfast in bed. Then Olivia promptly sat on my lap and dug her hands right into my food to help herself:) Gotta love your kids! She's so cute, who could say no? Now we are just going to enjoy our nice weather and relax outside a little. A tight-squeezy-hug to all the moms!
Well we've had a good week. Olivia got to spend an entire day with her best buds Delaney and Madelyn on Tuesday. Wednesday she must have been exhausted because she slept until after 9am (which NEVER happens)! And Thursday she got to see them again at their playgroup and then the park. She just can't get enough of those girls. I swear she'd live with them if she could!
Today she had a dermatologist appointment, and right at the end she turned to the nurses and promptly asked for her sucker. Spoiled little thing, she hadn't been in a month, yet she could remember just who to ask for a sucker.
Then mommy and daddy got to go to "starble-guh" aka Starbucks:) Just as long as the midget could go to the playground. She knows that the two go hand in hand, so she's always patient as we sip away. The playground was built about 20feet from the train tracks, so the kids just love it. When the train comes we all run as fast as we can to the fence and wave at the conductor. Of course we saw one today. And there was an added bonus of the fire trucks testing their hoses over the lake, so we got a little show.
This afternoon we went to the pool. It was so hot outside and the pool was packed. Olivia made two little friends and spashed around. We'll have to take our camera next time and get some pictures.
Ahhh, the weekend is here. It's nice to have downtime. Jeff and I are celebrating with our 'chocolate therapy' counselors, Ben & Jerry:)
Olivia and I were out on our deck playing this morning. She has a little swing/climber/slide that she adores. She climbed up the slide and was standing on the top, I was standing at the bottom ready to tickle her when she landed. All of the sudden she let out this bloody murder scream that I swear I have never heard before...as loud as her little lungs could scream. She launched herself across the slide and onto my leg, jumping about three feet. At the same time this tiny little tree frog jumped about three feet in the other direction. Seriously, this frog was the size of a dime, no bigger than a thumbprint. I couldn't even see him on the deck until he jumped again. I think she scared him almost more than he scared her. I must be a terrible mommy, because I couldn't stop laughing! But she was convinced that this "boggie" was going to get her:)
Sunday Night we had PERFECT weather for the concert in the park. Sorry to all those in Michigan, but it was a nice mid 70 that night. The city puts on a free family concert in the park. Everyone brings blankets and lawn chairs, along with picnic dinners. Olivia really loved it this time. She was shaking those little hips and dancing around like a maniac. Amazingly she never left our blanket. We thought for sure she'd want to wander, but I think she was a little intimidated by the number of people. It's nice to have finally found a clean (and free) family event that makes us feel like part of a community down here:)
Despite our efforts to have a fun filled weekend, Louisiana rain squashed that flat! We had terrible storms today and a little minor flooding that subsided by dinner time. Olivia was supposed to have a Trike-A-Thon with the kids from her normal Thursday playgroup...but that was canceled. So we spent our gray day indoors. We took a little trip to our Slidell Mall (yuck!). And eventually retreated to our living room for hide-n-seek and tickle wars. Daddy won of course.
Jeff was able to get a little more landscaping accomplished during a break in the rain. We now have bright beautiful hibiscus flowers lining our driveway. (You'll have to ask him about "The Mound"). I'll try and post some pictures soon. We also have a new swing for Olivia mounted on our garage. She loves it, and we have to trick her to get her out of it!
Tomorrow night we are going to try and make it to the Bayou Jam concert in the park. It's a nice free family fun time that the city hosts in the center of town. Olivia loves to dance around and get crazy with the other kids. Amazingly it's going to be a nice 70 something out and hopefully it won't be too cold for the concert;)
My name is Tricia Carter and this is the life in snidbits of the crazy Carter family. Jeff and I have been married for six years now and we have three amazing kids! Olivia is five and blossoming right before our eyes into a little lady, sweet and smart. Deagan is three and is crazy as can be. Tiny Tessa is growing bigger and more beautiful each day. We are so thankful to have three beautiful, healthy and happy children. I can't help but gush about them daily. I hope you enjoy following our lives.
