Today our sweet little princess turns 5! She's been waiting to turn "five" since she was about two years old. I'm not sure what milestone she's going to work towards next, this was a big one!
For so many years we've said, "when you're five Olivia!" And now she is! So fast, so quickly she's blossomed into a young lady who is not just smart but very intelligent and doesn't miss a thing! She full of fun and imagination, yet still loves a great nap full of cuddles on a lazy Sunday. She's our artist and singer, yet she loves science and someday will find a cure for something!
We love you Little Miss Five Year Old! Hope you have a FANTASTIC year!

The Kids' Birthday Party

This weekend we had the kids' birthday party. It RAINED, hurricane style, ALL WEEKEND LONG. This was the first birthday party weekend in FIVE years with bad weather that spoiled plans! So we crammed everyone indoors, and it worked!
Thank you to everyone that traveled the bad roads to get here and celebrate with us. We appreciate it and the kids REALLY appreciated it! For little ones, birthdays are everything and these guys plan on their birthdays for the entire year:)
Jeff had a little technical malfunction with the flash, but ended up with this pretty COOL shot of the cakes just before the kids blew them out:)
Really into his blue frosting (he didn't eat the cake)

nine eleven

It's a day that comes every year, just like many others. And it's a day that I silently fret the night before it comes and then hold my breath the day of. I don't know why, I just do. Something tells me that some day it's going to happen again, on this day. And it scares me.

So I've come to discover that my blog is more than just a blog, it's a diary. It's a reference point for me and my mommy brain to remember things. And I look back and read it frequently to think about what I was doing or how I was feeling. And I don't think I've ever done a post about nine eleven, so I'm going to remember it now, for me.

I can remember CLEARLY where I was and what I was doing, as I'm sure most of you can too.
And I still cry for those people, seeing the memorials on TV. Knowing how it feels to lose someone and guiltily thankful that I don't have to mourn my special someone with 3000 others, in the presence of media.
I'm happy that they do things for them and happy that the world remembers them, but sad for the families that are forced to relive it. On my day, I can do what I please, with privacy and those poor families will forever be followed during their day by reporters and cameras.
I remember leaving my 8am class to see 3 missed calls from my mom and 2 from my roommates, all freaking out because I wasn't answering my phone. And I knew something must be up to get that many calls before 9am!
So I rushed home and turned on the TV, and that's where I stayed for the rest of the day and many more to follow.
I was surrounded by my friends at MSU and we all sobbed. I remember the shock and the horror when the second plane hit, then you knew it was on purpose and before that it was unclear. Then the towers crumbled- NO ONE thought that was going to happen. No one. It was deafening silence. That's when it was real. That's when we all knew that this wasn't an accident and that there would be more things happening!
I was living a jog away from a capital city and that was a threat. I remember my mom asked me if I would just come home and I thought to myself that I was way to scared to be on the road, by myself. So I stayed put.
I remember just how quiet it was. Everywhere. All over campus. Classes were canceled for a few days. And there were candle light vigils (sp?) held every night, we went to a few of them and one memorable one on the steps of the capital.
Just jaw dropping silence and utter disbelief! That's most of what I remember.

I still can't come to terms with the fact that this happened. In OUR country. And 3000 of our people were lost. It's perplexing on every level. And then nowadays to see all of the documentaries on it and how "they" did it and what really happened. It's unreal!

The events inspired my husband, any many others, to join our men and women in uniform to fight for our country... something most of us would never do. And I admire them for that, and for defending us every day!

Ok, I've said my peace and I'm starting to sound like a politician, good night:)

Having fun with Deag while Sissy is at school

Ok, so maybe it's just a gray card and I added the words digitally, but still he's so stinkin' cute!

While we were on vacation to Grand Haven, Mr. Deagan had his 3rd birthday party! He turned three on Labor Day and we had a little family celebration:) He was a ham for the camera! And he's getting so big! Our hurricane baby is now a little boy!
I can't believe that he's so big. He has started Preschool now and LOVES every minute of it. When I pick him up he asks, "why can't I stay?" And apparently he is quite the charmer at school... never getting in on the boys fighting and always sharing with everyone. What? My crazy wild child who never shares with his sister and is always fighting with her? Ok, sure. He's an angel away from home:) I guess that's a good thing!

who needs a fork when you can use a spatula!

loving the tissue!

this is my truck and you will not take it

so excited to get a backpack- look at deagan, he's like why the heck is she jumping for joy over a backpack!

Olivia's First Day of Kindergarten

Today was the day that Olivia has been waiting looking forward to since she was two years old. She has been talking about going to kindergarten for as long as I can remember. I'm not sure how it all started, but she had it in her mind and this was her goal. Today it happened and boy was she excited:)
She woke up and was full of sunshine. She had picked out her dress, from a stack of five choices, and picked out "double braided piggy tails" and was ready to go. There was no nervousness, except for maybe two minutes in the car when she overheard Jeff and I discussing if we were going to be late (which we weren't).
Jeff got up and made her a special over the top breakfast of french toast sticks, bacon, and hash browns.
It was so great that Jeff got to tack on an extra day of vacation (this weekend we had lindsey and peter's wedding) and come with us for her first day of school! He was the "papa"ratzi you can thank for all of the pictures:)
We went to school and all of the students lined up behind their teachers and waited for everyone to arrive. Once the entire class was present, then she led them into the building. This year we were not allowed to go in, just wave goodbye. Thankfully she had her friend Stephanie to cushion her transition and she did it like a pro. No tears, just joy and excitement.
Here's to a whole new world Olivia!!!

With Mommy
With her buddy Stephanie, whom she met at safety town camp.
Oh so big!
I drew a little purple heart in her hand, so that she could squeeze it and think of me if she was sad or nervous. She held that hand shut tight!
A cool shot jeff snapped when we were walking in.
